Case Study: Syngenta deploy Polonious Case Management to coordinate Counterfeit Product Investigations globally

Syngenta Crop Protection, a multi-billion dollar global leader in Crop Protection products since 2000, has successfully deployed Polonious’ Case Management System to combat a growing market of illicit trade in counterfeit products.

The global investigations team operating across 4 continents 24hrs a day 365 day a year, required a highly available and configurable system to meet their unique needs. With each investigator responsible for multiple cases and regional managers requiring oversight of various internal and external specialist resources, Syngenta’s investigation team now have a real time view of their local and global case statuses.

As part of the real time view; role allocation, detailed case logs, single click case reports, automated escalation and integration with third party systems allow a collaborative approach to a seamless investigation process.

Mick Coggin, Head of Corporate Security Investigations at Syngenta, “By making reporting and investigation processes simpler yet more robust, we saw a 20% increase in the number of cases being recorded compared to the same period last year

After reviewing a number of offerings, Syngenta selected Polonious as the only system capable of meeting their unique requirements. Polonious was not only able to meet these requirements but also integrate other business processes providing even more efficiencies within the department.

Mick Coggin, Head of Corporate Security Investigations at Syngenta, “As our department continues to grow we will look at our wider processes and any opportunities to automate these as well.

Fred Peckett, European Technology & Integrations Lead, “Working with Syngenta’s talented global investigations team has made this a unique and rewarding deployment for the Polonious team. As we continue our collaborative approach, we look forward to delivering enhanced capabilities that support Syngenta’s ongoing needs.”

Polonious 20.1 released

Polonious 20.1 Released

Polonious release 20.1 is ready with some exciting new features that we hope will make your Polonious experience even more enjoyable and make your team even more productive.

20.1 enables customers to further enhance the Case View experience providing even more productivity to their case teams.

Additionally, our list of integrations has expanded to include CarFax and Splashlight Telehealth – a remote interviewing technology.

Flexible Case View

You can configure your own case view per case type. You might want videos or images up top or perhaps down in the detail. It’s all up to you and your organization’s needs.

Any of the pieces of this case view (below) can be ordered, in any sequence and comprise of additional data/less data, more emphasis.

This gives your management team full control over what appears where based on your KPIs and needs.

New Case Layout Manager

We have completed a new drag-and-drop capability to allow your configuration team to layout the case view with a lot more precision and capability.

For example, we have created this case view layout from the widgets available on the left by dragging & dropping into the centre part, picking which row it is to go on, then clicking the dropped widget and configuring its fields and other capabilities in a simple user interface.

You can have a different case view per type of case. For example, you might want a surveillance case to look very different to a factual case, this just requires configuring two different case view layouts.

The layout manager is a drag-and-drop tool enabling rapid configuration of a case view (this shows the case view configuration above). You can control the width of each widget as well as the contents. You can fit as many as 6 widgets across on wide screens. When this renders to mobile devices, it puts only one widget across and displays them down the page. This is a ‘responsive’ design that enables our case management tool to adapt to your device size.

The layout manager has a huge amount of functionality, we’d love to show you on-line. Get in contact, let’s build a case view together!

Full release notes (pdf) and a comprehensive user manual are available on the user group for current customers. Please contact your representative for more information.

Polonious 19.2 Released

Polonious release 19.2 marks the first generation of the new case view and layout manager. We have shipped 5 layout capabilities called ‘smartwidget’s to replace the core functionality of the current case view.

New Case Layout Manager

We are completing a drag-and-drop capability to allow your configuration team to layout the case view  with a lot more precision and capability than the current view. For example, we have created this case view layout from the widgets available on the left by dragging, dropping and configuring in a simple user interface. You can have a different case view per type of case.

The above example is based on the case view shown on the previous page. You can control the width of each widget as well as the contents. You can fit as many as 6 widgets across on wide screens. When this renders to mobile devices, it puts only one widget across and displays them down the page. This is ‘responsive’ design that enables our case management tool to adapt to your device size.

We can alter each individual field to emphasis important information.

For example the field list enables alteration of individual fields including date/numeric formats, sizes, alignment and colors.

You can also dictate how wide each SmartWidgets.  You can choose the width of those widgets, we also, as mentioned, respond to the device type and make it fit to mobile or tablet for example.

We have built 5 smartwidgets for laying out your case view.

Smart WidgetCapability
Field List

Choose an entity mapping, then select which fields from that mapping in whichever sequence you need them.

For the SmartWidget choose where your labels appear (above, beside, no labels).

For each field choose:

  • Small/normal/large font size
  • Font and background color (from 120+ options).
  • Left/Center/Right justify
  • Date/Numeric formats if you want to add more info like day of week.
Contacts

You can select to show all roles on a case or specific roles.

This lets you group contacts into different parts of the case view. For example, Investigation team contacts top right, Subject and Witnesses Top left, others second row.

Organisations

You can select to show all organisation roles on a case or specific roles.

This lets you group organisations into different parts of the case view. For example, Client Organisation right, External expert organisatinos left.

Entities

As above, you can select specific entities for different parts of the case view.

For example, In an auto investigation, the vehicle involved might go front and center, other entities below.

Timeline

This SmartWidget provides a succinct view of the actions on a case. Multiple timelines can be positioned on your case view layout if required.

Example: All actions regarding the incident as one timeline. All actions regarding the investigation as another timeline. All actions regarding SLAs as another timeline.

We also will provide horizontal (shown) and vertical timelines.

This is now in testing.

Full release notes (pdf) and a comprehensive user manual are available on the user group for current customers. Please contact your representative for more information.

Polonious 19.1 Released

Polonious release 19.1 is ready with some great new functional capabilities.

  • New reporting tool – Entity Mapping
  • New Keyword search
  • New Person / Organization / Entity Search
  • Enhanced Security Testing
  • New Mobile App

Keyword Search

The new keyword search capability implements:

  • A newer version of the indexing engine for faster results and better matching.
  • Additional security filtering, ensuring all user filters as enabled
  • Photos of persons/entities matched
  • Much more useful direct information on screen to help with selection
  • Filtering by hit ‘type’ so that if a keyword matches cases, persons and other things, you can drill to the list of just the entity types you are interested in if required.
If an image is available for the entity returned, we will display it to the right to help with more rapid recognition of the entity.

Person Search/View/Update

The person search has improved in performance and capability. We have added the ability to match on the exact or partial first name of a person and we even find persons with an equivalent alternative name. For example, a search for “Tony”, we will return persons with name Tony, Anthony, Ant, Anton and others that may be relevant. This example shows searches for Tony Hardy:

Person View has been added to provide a quick overview of a person record. We expect to enhance this shortly with totals of cases and other interesting statistics relevant to that person:

Organization Search/View/Update

We have extended similar capabilities to searching, viewing and updating organization data including the new ACLs to ensure all organization fields can be locked down as needed.

Entity Search/View/Update

We have extended the same capabilities to searches, views and updates of asset data including the new ACLs and standardised language elements to ensure fields can be locked down as needed.

Entity Mapping for easy report extracts

Polonious has several current methods of extracting data for reporting using Excel, Tableau, PowerBI and other tools. This new method is aimed at streamlining this process and making it much easier to understand.

The new capability hides the complexity of the case data and creates a view usable by any analyst or manager to save and extract the data they need from the major parts of the  Polonious database.

You can preview the data to see if it is what you expect. We return the first 10 rows, you can scroll right to see all columns of data returned.

When you select to extract the data, we will enable a series of from/to filters, one per field, this helps you to limit the amount of data returned from the system.

You can export data directly to an excel worksheet or to CSV for use in other tools.

The excel output can use a template to allow you to brand it specifically for your company.

Finally, in Expert mode, we will show you the actual SQL we generate. This is useful to your Data lake or BI teams to help them understand the structure of the back end tables.

Polonious offers an enhanced suite of REST services

In our previous release we already have introduced a basic set of public REST services which you can use to integrate your other existing backend systems, such as fraud detection systems or claims handling systems, with Polonious to create cases, diaries and various other artefacts.

We have now added many more capabilities to query your Polonious instance via REST calls, to update and create entities. Polonious now also supports triggering your external systems via OAuth secured REST service calls as part of the workflow configuration. This way you have a powerful way to do two-way integrations that can extend workflow capabilities and bring system integration and automation of data loads and updates to the next level.

Please contact us for further details such as our new Polonious REST API Quick Start guide and our full REST service documentation.

New Polonious Mobile app

Polonious has implemented a mobile app so your field staff have access to case data and can provide updates to the back office right on the spot without delays. This app is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. This app is not included in our service offering and needs to be purchased from the stores.

Full release notes (pdf) and a comprehensive user manual are available on the user group for current customers. Please contact your representative for more information.
